Championship Sunday: Masters Titles Decided

On Sunday 31st August, the first champions of 2025 were crowned in the Masters events, with gripping finals played in front of passionate crowds:
  • Over 50s Masters – Noel O’Sullivan (Ireland) defeated Dylan Leary (Northern Ireland) 6-4.
  • Over 60s Masters – Stacey Vine (Australia) impressed with a dominant 6-1 victory over Alfie Powley (England).
  • Under 18s Masters – Rhys McLaughlin (Northern Ireland) edged out Cassiem Abrahams (South Africa) 6-5 in a thrilling decider.
  • Under 23s Masters – Sean Walsh (Ireland) produced a commanding 6-2 win against Sean Dempsey (Australia).
  • Ladies Masters – Tasneem Solomons (South Africa), the 2024 World Champion, showed her resilience to edge Chucky Preston (Northern Ireland) 6-5 in a dramatic final.
  • Men’s Masters – Gary Clarke (Northern Ireland) claimed the crown with a tense 10-9 victory over Ultimate Pool professional Shaun Storry.

World Team Shootouts: Drama on the Big Stage

The following day saw the spotlight turn to the World Team Shootouts, with both the Ladies and Men’s editions delivering action-packed finals.

Ladies World Team Shootout

Team Australia captured the title in style. After overcoming New Zealand in the semi-finals, they toppled the highly fancied France side in the final, edging a 4-3 victory to take the trophy. The result sparked huge celebrations, marking a landmark moment for Australian ladies’ pool.

Men’s World Team Shootout

Broadcast live on TNT Sports and to 66 countries worldwide, the Men’s Shootout provided one of the most dramatic spectacles in recent memory. The format delivered it all: golden breaks, six-red shootouts, last-second drama, and passionate celebrations.

In the end, it was Malta’s year. After finishing runners-up in the last three finals, Malta finally broke through — defeating defending champions Wales 5-4 in an unforgettable final.

With just 1 minute 50 seconds left, Wales’ Brad Ferguson attempted a clearance to level at 5-5 and force another shootout. But a cruel twist saw him snookered on the black, and as the seconds ticked away, the clock ran out. Malta, having beaten all three of their previous final opponents in this year’s event, finally lifted the trophy to create history.

What’s Next in Ennis

With the Masters and Team Shootouts concluded, attention now turns to the main, teams & singles events.
  • Team Events – Ladies, Men’s, Over 50s, Over 60s, Under 18s, and Under 23s
  • Singles Events – across every age group, plus Wheelchair
  • Scotch Doubles – in Ladies, Men’s, Over 50s, Over 60s, Under 18s, and Under 23s categories

Over the coming days, the world’s best will continue to battle it out in Ennis, and more champions will be crowned. With the atmosphere building and the stakes getting higher, the 2025 World Eightball Pool Championships promise even more history-making moments still to come.
